“The greatest little town in all the land” is situated in Middlesex County and is home to nearly 7,000 residents. Milltown or “the Boro” is not large in size, (1.6 square mile) but it’s filled with history, heart and great people.

Milltown grew up around the Lawrence Brook, which divides the borough from east to west. Among our first settlers was Jacob I. Bergen, who built a grist mill in 1816 along Lawrence Brook. Until 1845, the tiny settlement that grew around the mill was known as Bergen's Mills. Later the name was shortened to Milltown.

Once home to the Michelin Tire Company, our gem of a town prides itself on family values and community. Our mile-long Main Street is filled with Mom & Pop shops, churches and eateries.

Milltown is proud of its two public schools, Parkview School (K-3) and Joyce Kilmer School (4-8). The borough's high school students are bused five miles to nearby Spotswood High School.

Over the years the Boro has grown with development, and while many current residents migrated from New Brunswick, Staten Island and other cities, there remains active several 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation family members, some of whom bare the same name as the street signs lining Main Street.

At near capacity and limited space for additional development besides the old Michelin Tire Factory site on Ford Ave., Milltown is poised to remain the Greatest “little” Town, and as we see it, the Greatest Community in the land.
